Approaching Invisible - Autotistic on Ltd CDR pressing
Anyone lucky enough to track down a copy of Mr Autotistic's
previous masterwerk you will be little surprised, perhaps, at
the playful mood his new opus finds our little sonic architect.
Like Current 93 constructing a BBC Radiophonic workshop album,
this album is full of the sounds & effects for that sci-fi
film in your head, you thought was far too freaky to see the
light of day
.Ever wondered about the missing Clanger's episode where vast
amounts of weed are smoked by the little pink fellows, causing
them to crawl on slo-mo thru the wreckage of their home then
Trk 3 - 'Section' does the trick. Or the sound of a swing doubling
as the electric chair. A vicious thrill before you go out in
a cloud of smoke then Trk 11 'Hemp' is for you.
Elsewhere, we find ourselves within the bowels of machines.
'Latex Wonder' finds us as hostages to the original Space Invaders,
their murderous electronic chatter, telling of our doom, or
watching the bike race from 'Tron' on a terrible old TV with
the channel constantly drifting. In & amongst these sonic
experiments, we find some true visions of a vivid scenario,
we could almost feel ourselves inside.
'Spatial Hyoscomine' is like a brooding description of Vietnam
at night, distorted rotor sounds, the crackle of gunfire &
the insistent buzz of the jungle, whereas track 8 'Loose Change'
is the very essence of a radioactive beach. As the surf still
rolls in, the sea hisses against the sand and the bright orange
sky crackles with static - the aftermath of destruction.
This is too much to be ignored and as legitimate digital sound
collage goes this is worthy, if not more so, than a lot of what
is commercially available in the electronic sound construction
realm.Distorted electric accordion, a robot with it's mouth
full, the soft fizz of distant digital fireworks, even a brief
excursion into d&b using squeezed bird noises & static.
This deserves to be huge and if you are missing that one album
which will happily sit in a category all of it's own then welcome.
