The above etching by J Powell was made sometime prior to 1808 and may be much earlier. Whilst artistic license with respect to the gravestones may have been used, certainly an easily identified double headstone dated 1790 is missing from the sketch.
The above photograph was taken sometime in the 19th century. The double headstone in the foreground looks very fresh and it commemorates Stephen Chandler and his wife Elizabeth; the latter died in 1858. Note the costume of the man leaning against rails and the woman near the church gate.
The above photograph was taken sometime at the end of the 19th Century, certainly prior to 1923 when the war memorial was erected. Note that the wooden church rails have now been replaced by iron railings.
