In 2006, we were contacted by a very distressed lady whose father was sadly due to go into a care facility.

Some years before, the lady's father had found an injured Racing Pigeon. He had kept the pigeon for about 8 years but was unable to take the bird with him now. The lady said that she had been phoning around for many weeks but nobody was willing to give the pigeon a home. What could we say?

When the pigeon arrived we settled him in and noticed he was wearing a leg ring. When we looked at the ring, we were stunned to find out that the bird had been hatched in 1990, making him at that time, 16 years old!

Percy is now 18 years old and still rules the roost in his aviary which he shares with other pigeons waiting to be released. He has a mate, a small hen bird named Celia who cannot be released and spends his time nuzzling and cooing to her.

Percy will remain with us for the rest of his life and as a permanent resident, you can sponsor him for just £9.99 through our ebay shop.
