Feline
Enteritis
Feline
Enteritis is a highly contagious viral disease that is closely
related to parvovirus in dogs. This is a very serious disease
and is often fatal in unvaccinated kittens and young cats, despite
intensive veterinary care and therapy.
The
virus spreads to anything soiled by infected droppings; food bowls,
clothing, shoes, bedding. It can survive outside the infected
cat and a special disinfectant may be needed to sanitise the area
and objects.
The
symptoms of enteritis will be a loss of appetite, vomitting and
severe dehydration.
There
is no cure for feline enteritis and so prevention by way of vaccination
is extremely important. Kittens should be vaccinated at an early
age and adult cats boostered annually.
