SSBS

Having defeated Ken's plans for a tram, SSBS still campaigns on issues that affect the lives of the residents of Shepherd's Bush.

Founder Members of Save Shepherds Bush Streets were brought together by me, and we worked with an alliance of local groups such as GRAG (Greenside Residents Action Group), RAPA (Residents Amenities Protection Association), The Ravenscourt Society, and Stamford Brook Residents Association to improve public transport without resorting to an expensive and disrupting tramway.

We also campaigned in conjunction with 'Save Ealing's Streets' to stop Transport for London closing the Uxbridge Road and re-routing non-public transport vehicles (NPTVs) down residential streets.

The campaign culminated in the televised interview with Ken Livingstone when he admitted that if Crossrail got the thumbs up from Gordon Brown then there would be no need for a tramway.

I really didn't care what the reason were, I was just glad to see the back of the plans.

I have keep this record of the campaign in case it ever reared its ugly head again, and in case other groups might find it useful. You can take on the might of a massive organisation and make things change. Stop the tram now, stop the third Heathrow runway next!
