The Swinton Supporters trust took part in a fundraising seven a side tournament in aid of Woolsten, who's changing rooms were recently destroyed by arson. The first match was against Leigh who were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic Lions. In the semi final they faced a Wigan side who have all played together for a number of games. The team were very unfortunate to lose out by one try to the eventual champions. A good day was had by all and the team are looking forward to their next outing.
SWINTON SUPPORTERS TRUST SPORTSPERSONS DINNER 8/11/02
The ever-growing Swinton Supporters Trust held a Sportspersons Dinner (yes, ladies were most welcome) last Friday at Buile Hill, Salford and raised a magnificent £6,000 for the Trust's causes.
Over 200 guests filled a banqueting suite decked in blue & white balloons, ribbons and all manner of decoration. Supporters old and new gathered to self-indulge in 'Rugby League talk', particularly Swinton RLFC talk. Supporters Trust chairman Chris Spalding presented to the gathering a 'make no-bones about it' speech explaining the reason for there being a Supporters Trust, its aims, its achievements so far and the role it must play in helping secure the future of such a proud and historic club.
Following a magnificently presented meal, the gathering was treated to 45 minutes of hilarious RL stories from the one, the only, the legendary Mr Alex Murphy. Alex subsequently and very kindly donated a very personal item to raise money for the Trust and a princely sum was raised as a result.
The Trust would like to thank Buile Hill for their good food and quality of standards, all our fellow RL clubs (Aussie clubs as well), individuals, local businesses and many others for their terrific donations for auction. Special mentions must be heaped on Elaine Stimpson, Sue Buckley, Barbara Cathcart and all the other Trust members, for their hard work and professionalism in organising the event.
It was a night to remember the great times, to reflect on not-so-great times and recent history, but it was mainly a night to enjoy the life-long friendship and the undeniable commitment of fellow Swinton fans, all united in one thing - the rise back to glory and a positive future for 'The Lions of Swinton'.

SWINTON PAST PLAYERS REUNION 16/11/02
Swinton Lions RLFC heroes of the 60's and 70's gathered
for their reunion evening last Saturday. The event, organised annually by Clifton
Cricket Club's Chris Haslam brings Swintonians from all over the country to
re-live past glories, and wallow in the company of old team-mates.
The Swinton Supporters Trust were kindly invited along and a short presentation
was made to the gathering by both Trust Chairman, Chris Spalding and Trust representative
on the Swinton Board, Steve Wild. The strength of support for the Trusts aims
from past players and officials was unanimously applauded and many pledges of
Lions memorabelia was offered as fund-raisers at future Trust events.
In appreciation of their help and support, the Swinton Supporters Trust presented
Clifton CC with a framed momento - with a view to the future of Swinton Lions
RLFC and its role in the community.
A new and strong bridge was securely built between Station Road and Moor Lane
that night.
