First Generation

1. David INGLIS. David died before 1860. Occupation: Chimney Sweep/Hawker.

David married Roseanna WELSH, daughter of John WELSH & Margaret MURRAY. Born abt 1795. Roseanna died in Loanhead, Scotland on 25 4 1860, she was 65.

 John Inglis their son was the informant of death which was registered 28 4 1860 at Lasswade.

They had one child:

2 i. John Robertson (~1843-1911)

 

Second Generation

2. John Robertson INGLIS. Born abt 1843/4 in Edinburgh. John Robertson died in the Poorhouse, Craiglockhart (Colinton District) on 28 3 1911, he was 68. Occupation: Coal Carter and Plasterer's labourer.

Birth not found. Maybe he was a Roman Catholic? Lived at Baxters Close, Edinburgh Tolbooth, Edinburgh in 1881. 

On 31 12 1875 when John Robertson was 32, he married Agnes MILLIGAN, daughter of Robert MILLIGAN & Mary MACPHIE/MCFEE, at Grange Road, Edinburgh. Born about 1843-45 in Edinburgh. Agnes died  in 1917, she was 74. Occupation: Vendor of Fruit in 1868. Hawker1871-1875 and Fish Seller later.

Lived at  Grassmarket in 1871-75. Lived at  Baxters Close, Lawnmarket in 1881.

They had the following children:

i. William. Born on 22 9 1868 in Dicks Close, Cowgate, Edinburgh (St Giles District). Illegitimate but father named on birth cert. as John Inglis Coal Carter.

ii. Mary Jane. Born on 2 5 1871 in 99 Grassmarket, Edinburgh  (St George District). Illegitimate but John Inglis named as father.

iii. John. Born on 7 8 1873 in John's Lodgings, 99 Grassmarket, Edinburgh (St George District). Illegitimate but John Inglis named as father.

3 iv. Robert Milligan (1875-1935)

v. Rose Ann Welsh. Born on 8 7 1877 at the Lawnmarket, Edinburgh (Saint Giles District). On 17 9 1897 when Rose Ann Welsh was 20, she married James STEWART, son of Unknown & Mary STEWART, in St Columbus Church, Johnston Terrace, Edinburgh (St Giles District). Born abt 1876. Occupation: Stone Carter in 1897.

vi. Annabella. Born on 9 10 1880 in 3 Baxter's Close, Lawnmarket, Edinburgh at 7.50pm (St Giles District).

Third Generation

3. Robert Milligan INGLIS. Born on 16 8 1875 at Jones Lodgings 99 Grassmarket, Edinburgh (St George District). Robert Milligan died in 1935, he was 59. Occupation: House Painter.

Illegitimate.  Name shown as Robert Inglis Milligan on birth certificate. Mother informant of birth. Registered 31 8 1875 at Edinburgh. Lived at 8 Solicitors Buildings, Cowgate, Edinburgh in 1915.

On 12 7 1895 when Robert Milligan was 19, he married Jeanie MC DONALD, daughter of John MC DONALD & Ann BURNS in Edinburgh. Born on 18 4 1878 at 26 West Port, Edinburgh .

They had the following children:

i. Robert. Born in 1898 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Robert died when Killed in action in 1915. Memorial in Edinburgh castle? (to be found). He was 17.

ii. Mary (June?). Born in 1900 in Edinburgh, Midlothian. Lived at 10 Society in 1901. Witness to brother John's marriage in 1930. Lived at 3 Prospect Place, Edinburgh in 1930

4 iii. John (1903-1958)

iv. James. Born aft 1905 at Piershill, Edinburgh.

v. Charles Burns. Born on 20 9 1910 at Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh (St Giles District).

vi. Donald. Born on 22 2 1913 at Grassmarket, Edinburgh (St Giles District).

Fourth Generation

4. John INGLIS. Born on 20 4 1903 at 16 Cowan's Close, Edinburgh, Scotland. John died on 18 4 1958, he was 54. Occupation: House painter (Journeyman). Religion: Catholic. Lived at 104 Cowgate, Edinburgh in 1930 and at 26 Niddrie Mains Drive, Craigmillar.

On 31 12 1930 when John was 27, he married Mary Isabella WIGHT, daughter of Thomas WIGHT & Agnes CAMPBELL, in Lady Glenorchy's Parish Church, South Edinburgh. Born on 3 2 1908 at 55 St Mary's St, Edinburgh. Mary Isabella died in Harold Wood Hosp. Essex on 5 5 1975, she was 67. Occupation: Laundress in 1930 when married.

They lived at 104 Cowgate, Edinburgh in 1930 and then at 26 Niddrie Mains Drive, Edinburgh when I was little. Mary Isabella went to The Bridge of Weir Convent with brother Bobby aged 4 who died there. She left Quarrier's at 16 and went to the City Orphan Home where she went to work at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a Laundress.
