The 5th Kirkintilloch Boys' Brigade will soon be celebrating it's 50th anniversary and we would like to invite any former boys, Queens men or Officers to join us in celebrating this milestone.

The 5th was formed on 10th November 1958 and has run continuously since then. It is our intention to hold a series of events in November, hopefully covering most aspects of Company life. Throughout the weekend we will have displays of company memorabilia,  If anyone has anything that they feel would be of interest to young or old please let us know. We will label any items with the donors name and ensure their safe return after the anniversary. Also we hope to hold a Celebration Dinner, if you would like to attend, please lets us know

As mentioned in last month’s Parishioner the 5th Kirkintilloch Boys’ Brigade will be holding the annual Parents Night on Monday 28 April 2008 at 7.00 pm.  The boys and the officers have all been working hard towards making this a special night for all parents, friends and members of the congregation; so please make a special effort to come along and support our young people.  A very warm welcome will be extended to all who come along to see what the boys have achieved.  The awards will be presented by Mrs Janet McKean.

This year will see the 125th Anniversary of the founding of the Boys’ Brigade as an organisation and the 50th Anniversary of the Junior Section holding their meetings in St. Mary’s.  Following some research I found that The Junior Section (then The Life Boys) began meeting in St. Mary’s on 17 February 1958 and the Company Section was founded in St. Mary’s on 10 November 1958.  During my research it was also ascertained that the Junior Section (then as Life Boys) was founded in Waterside on 18 November 1957 by Iain Little, James Little, James McAllister, Archie Smith and Janet Stevenson and the records show that there were 37 boys attending on a regular basis.

I would remind all members, and former members, of the 5th Kirkintilloch Boys’ Brigade that it is proposed to hold a celebratory dinner in November to commemorate the 50th Anniversary and I am particularly keen to find any kind of memorabilia or photographs from the early years, so if you have anything which you think would be of interest, would like to attend the November function and talk about old times please contact either myself on 0845 224 1025 or Iain Hill (Company Section) on 0845 224 1052 or the Youth Convenor, Garry Burns, on 0845 224 1084.  Details of the actual date, location and cost, of the dinner will be intimated as soon as possible.
