Geoff is constantly on the look out for new ideas.
Some of these ideas he is willing to share with the rest of us.

1. Geoff demonstrates the rule of twelfths approximate tidal height calculation.
All you have to do is substitute the range and divide by twelve.
Now there's no reason to hit the bottom in those extra large Bristol Channel tides.

2. Geoff dispels the myth of the Granny Knot
The proper name for this knot is the collar knot. It consists of two identical half knots. It is put in the middle part of two ropes to make temporary shrouds for a jury rig. The knot is opened out and placed over the new masthead. Apparently it is easily capsized. Now you'll know what to do next time your mast falls off.

Geoff is also highly regarded for the amazing Course to Steer calculator that he has devised to run using Microsoft Excel. Just punch in the details and it will tell you where to go, without expletives. Users of this amazing program must take into consideration there may be land, rocks, sandbanks and other obstacles in the way. For more details, see Geoff.
