BCYA MEETING
The BCYA is proposing to hold a meeting at CYC on the 14th March 2007. A guest speaker is being arranged. I have made tentative arrangments with the club but will firm up the date tomorrow evening at the main committee meeting.

The meeting is open to all members and it would be nice if it is supported by all sections as the BCYA is a conduit for us to us if we have any problems or need advise and support.

IMPORTANT RED DEISEL ALERT
As you may already know the price of diesel is going to rise quite a lot within the next few months owing to the derogation being stopped by the E.U commisioners whether the goverment will try to put in an appeal we don't know it should have gone up on the first of January 2007 but it will not change untill they get all the facts right. The RYA and the BMF British Marine Federation are talking to the goverment at this moment in time. How many boats are going to give up with these prices I don't know but I think there will be a lot. The only thing you can do is E.Mail your Member of parliment. If everybody does this at least you have tried, so see you down the beach fella's.

There is now a strong petition on Motor Boats Monthly use this to cast your vote against the change in the fuel price. Vote now before the 11th of Febuary, that is when the petition closes. Ok Derek

SUNDAY FUN RACING
Sunday mornings for the time being we will be holding our own combined
dinghy/cruiser fun races. These will be have the emphasis on 'fun' rather than 'racing' (though
winning is winning, of course!) so hopefully this will tempt more people out. This Sunday will be
very informal and self-timed, but if there is enough interest we will put out a committee boat on
subsequent Sundays.

Weather permitting, the start (warning signal) will be at 10.30am.

FLARE DISPOSAL
There's been some talk about how to dispose of out-of-date flares recently, and Barry Coasguard

  STORIES
Does anyone have any tales, yarns, or technical articles that they would like people to read. This should include both fishing and sailing sections. I will be happy to publish them on the site.

CHEPSTOW PICS
Christine Norman, the treasurer from Chepstow Boat Club has kindly forwarded some pictures of our club members boats when they attended the Centenery Celebration of the opening of Brockwier Bridge. A link to their club has now been added to our LINKS page where some of these pictures can be viewed. I will add some of them to the gallery in due course.

No matter of concern has been raised regarding their automatic inflation. These lifejackets are being recalled as a precaution for inspection and, where appropriate, repair or replacement.

CARDIFF HARBOUR AUTHORITY
There is now a link on the right hand side of the page to Cardiff Harbour Authority. Their site contains useful information such as notices to mariners, which should help club members from inadvertantly breaking temporary Harbour rules. There is also information about barrage locking operations, things to do, events, water quality and more. Click on the link and take a look for yourself.

SHIPS RADIO LICENCING
I
mplementation of the new regime

Ofcom has now issued details of how the new regime will be implemented, following its policy document described in CYCC circular of 2 February 2006 Ships' Radio Licences and the Proposed Fixed Penalty Regime. GEOFF SARGENT WEB PAGES
Geoff has compiled a new navigational web site.
He has spent a lot of time compiling navigational spread sheets to:
Get tidal streams from tidal diamond information
Work out secondary port tides
Find a course to steer

All these sheets are fully operational providing you have an up to date copy of excel, and are free to download.
The site can be found at: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/tanera/

MAIB
The RYA is pleased to inform clubs about the following service being offered by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB). The MAIB is part of the government's Department for Transport but is completely independent of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

We can all learn valuable safety lessons from real life incidents and reports on some of these are available in the Marine Accident Investigation Branch's (MAIB) special Safety Digest for the leisure craft sector. This edition contains 25 articles covering sail and power, many of which are used on RYA shore based and practical courses as key learning aides.

You can obtain your copy of the Leisure Craft Safety Digest free of charge from the MAIB.
by E-mail: maibpublications@dft.gsi.gov.uk
or by phone: 023 8039 5510.

The digest is also available online at www.maib.gov.uk

BCYA
Take a look at what's happening at all the other clubs up the channel as well as our own in the Bristol Channel Events page. This has been designed as a notice board for all the open events happening in the channel. A good chance for members from various clubs to get together whenever possible. The events page can also be accessed through the CYC drop down menu.

FORUM
If you've got something to say about anything in particular then click on the blue button on the Notices page and let people know. You might have something you want to get off your chest, or just see what others have to say.

UNIVERSITY DINGHY SAILING
Cardiff University Dinghy Sailing Club are now a part of The Cardiff Yacht Club. They have a new compound brimming with almost new go faster dinghies, complete with it's very own shed. They can often be seen braving the worst of the weather the bay can throw at them with great skill and finess. Their new website link can be found under the DINGHY drop down menu on this site.
