Chapter three-The Evan's

Surname Origin:        Welsh from the given name Ifan, Evan, John, the Scots variation Ewan

We know little of the Evans family, but what we do know,  and this is where we move on again, is that Jane Chandler married George Evans by Bonds on December 1 1766. The Bond was drawn up in November of that year between George Evans and Ezekiel Palphrey in the sum of £100, whether the George Evans mentioned is the father of our George or George himself we do not know, neither have we been able to establish the relationship of Ezekiel Palphrey to Jane. We had thought that he might have married into the Williams’ family but our research has revealed that he married a Mary Broadshaw. We did find out that both George and Ezekiel were Church Wardens at Llanfihangel Church.

Jane and George later gave birth to a son named Edward baptised October 12 1767 in Llanfihangel, followed by Jane baptised January 13 1770, Elizabeth baptised May 31 1772,  Mary baptised September 9 1775 and Moses baptised October 9 1779. Below is the baptism record of Mary, and it is with her that we shall continue our story later.

Jane died and her burial record is a day after the baptism record of her son Moses and it can be assumed that she died due to childbirth, not unusual in those days.  Nothing further is known about George Evans, although we have made a number of searches,  neither his baptism, burial nor any trace of a re-marriage have been found, although his children were all still young when their mother died.
