My first antenna built in mid march 04, its still up and working. Its a 1/4 wave ground plane utilizing a coat hanger for the radiator.

Looking at getting out better with the aim of more gain i tried my hand at a 5/8ths wave ground plane. Above you can see the construction of the matching coil which took a little playing around with to get a good swr reading. The woodenbase is made from two off cuts of a hand rail and enamalled copper wire is coiled around each of the 4 legs.

Heres a 5/8ths wave built inside a piece of electrical trunking for portable use, again in the left photo you can see the matching coil and length of thick copper wire which is bending upwards and to the right going behind the antenna, this is a ground plane and bends nicley so it fits into the boot of the car.
