Nature Notes are about 'domestic natural history': what you can see in your garden or in the radius of walking the dog. I live in the village of Hemingford Abbots in Cambridgeshire and most Nature Notes are based on what I see in my garden and the fields beyond, or while wandering across the common and along the banks of the River Great Ouse. Others are based on observations sent to me. They cover all sorts of wildlife: birds, mammals, insects, worms, flowers and fungi - anything that catches my eye.
   I used to write Nature Notes each week in The Daily Telegraph, as did my father before me. Sadly, the series no longer fitted the paper's changing style. I am continuing to write them because they disciplined me to observe nature closely and ask questions of How? and Why?
