The River Monnow Project

Captive-bred water voles were released at Turnastone Court on 21 September 2006, as part of a £1 million river restoration project.

turnastone river fence.jpg (86420 bytes) The banks of the River Monnow and its tributaries have been protected by fences to allow the vegetation to regrow and form a good habitat for water voles.

vole release4.jpg (97748 bytes) They are kept captive for three days. Then the door is opened and they are allowed to wander out and settle in their new home.
