We Pay Bob and Spike a visit at the National Parrot Sanctuary
Friskney, Lincolnshire
A while ago Dad and Joey decided that it was becoming a chore to look after their 2 parrots Bob, Who is a Blue Ringneck, And Spike a Crimson Rosella. They just did not have the time to spend with them.
They did not want to give them away and wanted to make sure they would go somewhere that would look after them well.
They found out about The National Parrot Sanctuary which luckily is pretty close to home being at Friskney which is only 40 miles away. This was great because we could visit them as often as we liked. When we took them there the first day we were really pleased with the place and the people there really know there Parrots.
This is a picture story about our first visit to the Sanctuary
(Would they remember us?)
While Dad was chatting to the man at the entry window I met a really cool Parrot called Digby, When the man said that Digby would show us round, We thought he was joking at first but he was not and Digby did in fact stay with us throughout our visit which was great fun.
Here he is sitting on my shoulder ready to take us round.
Digby was very photogenic and seemed to enjoy being the center of attraction. We can't believe how big he is. His beak is enormous and check out the size of them feet.
Right Digby lets go and find Bob and Spike!
Here he is, and he recognises us, We managed to find him straight away and he came over to say hello, It was lovely to see him. His new house was lovely and big and he had lots of new friends. Spike was harder to spot and did not come over to see us but we did not know him as long as we knew Bob so its understandable that he was not so bothered about seeing us.
He was a bit shocked to see Digby on my shoulder.
Mind you it must have been a shock looking out at this lot!
We gave Bob some Extra Strong mints, something he used to like when he lived with us, and of course Digby wanted some, you can see him holding his Mint in this picture.
And here is Bob getting his Mint from Joey. You can tell he remembers us can't you? It was really nice to feed him again. On the left you can see "Imposter Bob" a Blue Ringneck who was pretending to be Bob, Didn't fool us though!
Here I am feeding some of Bob and Spikes new friends, these two Green Parrots were very friendly too, they were not too impressed with Extra Strong Mints though, must buy some nuts next time.
Digby sometimes got a bit carried away and here he had a nibble of my ear, It was sore "Ouch"!
He also bit the top button off Dads hat, He must have been a bit peckish.
Up till now Joey was too chicken to let Digby sit on him, in the end our friendly parrot just Flew at Joey who tried to run but was too slow. Here they are together for the first time, Joey does not look too worried does he?
Looks like Digby has finally got hold of Joeys hat.
Joey still looks pretty calm about the whole event doesn't he.
This bit was funny Joey was squirming like mad Shouting "Get it off me" and then Dad said "Come on Joey give us a smile just for a moment"!
Look carefully and you can see Joey's hat is a RHOCAR one, this is from his Kit Car club which is pretty cool.
There is lots of White Cockatoo's and these two took a shine to Katie's Bright Jumper, As you are walking round the place you can hear the birds talking away its really funny "Hello", "Hellooo" and lots of other things said as well.
Joey has either grown wings or Digby is attacking the poor lad again!
Look how cocky Joey is being now he has got his hood up and Digby cannot get at his Hat, (Or Ears)!
Digby was not very keen on Dandylion leaves and threw it back in Katie's face.
In this picture you can see Bob in the middle with his back to us and spike is the red and blue one to the right of the picture. It was nice to see that they both had a new set of pals. And we were left feeling that it was really a good move bringing them both to "The National Parrot Sanctuary".
Thirsty work this tour guide work!
He really had a good drink, this was really funny to see.
Digby then showed us another trick that he could do, pull the drawing pins out of the notice boards and chew them a while. We rushed off to tell one of the workers that he was busy chewing a drawing pin, the man just laughed and said that "He often does this, and that they spend a fortune replacing the pins around the site"
This was a really cute Cockatoo he was really scraggy and looked a mess but he was absolutely crazy he danced and shouted his head off, and then went in his house and rested. What a cutie.
Katie was caught doing a Cockatoo dance, no wonder the birds are looking at her as if she is mad.
A lot of the birds had little storyboards telling you about their history.
Look at Bob, Dont he look cute makes you wonder why we brought him here in the first place
.
Well bye for now "Bob and Imposter Bob" see you next time.
Digby looks like he has something against Katies toy parrot
(No buttons or drawing pins probably).
Well off you go Digby thanks for the guided tour, See you soon.
Well folks get yourselves off to the
"National Parrot Sanctuary"
its Brilliant and is a really fun place.
