Grandstand Finale To The Season

Turvey went into the last game of the season at home to Stoke Goldington with an outside chance of promotion, 25 points behind top club Caddington and 22 points behind second placed Studham. Therefore a 30 point win was required. Turvey won the toss and elected to bat. The youthful opening partnership of Andy Quarmby and Kelvin Budd got things off to a flying start. But then Stoke hit back with 2 quick wickets. Ed Hamp then joined Quarmby as they put on 87 for the 3rd wicket in quick time. Hamp was then bowled bringing Thompson to the crease. Turvey then cut loose adding a further 75 in the last 12 overs with Andy Quarmby reaching his maiden century. Turvey then declared on 227-4 giving themselves 47 overs to gain the victory.

At the tea interval members of Caddington arrived and informed us that they had been beaten by 9 wickets and gained 0 points. Therefore if Turvey bowled out Stoke Goldington they were promoted. Hostile spells of bowling from Woodhouse, Lay and Hamp completely blew the opposition away dismissing them for 52 and ensuring that Turvey gained back to back promotions.

Turvey will start the 2007 season in Division 2.

Turvey 1st XI hammer visitors

With just two defeats in the last 23 games, Turvey entered the clash against the bottom side full of confidence. Winning the toss captain Richard Braybrook put Willen into bat and Simon Sparks soon had them reeling with a fine opening spell capturing 3 wickets for just 11 runs. Enter Phil Meggitt to wrap things up with 4 – 21 and Richard Braybrook 2 wickets in an over left Willen on a paltry 116.

With Bari Rao back to form the total was never enough as Turvey won by 6 wickets Bari scoring 53 and Mike Farrah back with 19 no.

Turvey crush sorry Claydon

Turvey inspired by young Ollie woodhouse crushed Steeple Claydon by 7 wickets. Claydon made a poultry 58 thanks for 4 – 7 from Woodhouse and two wickets a piece of Sparks, Braybrook and Hamp.

Turvey knocked them off with few alarms as Andy Quarmby made 27 and senior player Neil Green calling on his experience to make 15 not out.

Turvey now climb to 3rd place.

Turvey scrape through with 4 balls to spare

Turvey won by 1 wicket in a low scoring encounter with Shenley Church End. Batting first SCE totalled a modest 116, with accurate from bowling Hamp, Quarmby, Sparks, Woodhouse and Braybrook. Chasing down the total proved tough going as the pitch deteriorated rapidly, Turvey slumping to 30-5. Then Ollie Woodhouse and the inspirational Phil Meggitt took Turvey to touching distance then another collapse left us at 111-9 still 6 runs short. Enter Simon Sparks cool and calm as he knocked off the winning runs to secure Turvey's second win in two games.

Turvey win thriller

After almost a whole month of rain Turvey 1st XI came back with a bang. Batting first Turvey made a modest 175 largely due to 37 from Thompson, 27 from Green and 26 and 20 from Hamp and Quarmby respectively. New Bradwell started well and reach 100 for 3, but excellent bowling and fine catching pulled Turvey back into contention and as Bradwell needed just 10 to win and had 3 wickets left the veteran spinner Meggitt came to the party and took two crucial wickets to finish with 3-27. Ed Hamp, Simon Sparks and Ollie woodhouse each took 2 wickets to seal a thrilling 7 run win.

Turvey and Great Brickhill II fight out high scoring draw – 16/05/05

Turvey went into the second game of the season with confidence high. Our captain won the toss and we elected to field, within 5 orders Brickhill were reduced to 18-2 25 points appeared a formality. Then the onslaught began fours and sixes to all parts of the ground. When the dust had settled Brickhill had totalled a huge 245-6. Only Richard Braybrook escaped the hammering returning figures of 3-29. In reply the Turvey innings started briskly but the loss of two quick wickets soon put us on the back foot. Then Amit Patel 39 and Mike Farrah 45 brought about a recovery, however both were removed with over 140 still needed in 20 overs. Richard Braybrook then took to the crease and struck an imperious 76 crashing the ball to all parts of the ground, he got us to with 20 before falling LBW to a shooter. The last two overs were a nervous affair with Turvey finishing 14 runs shot and earning a draw totally 232-9.
