What is CricketForce?

NatWest CricketForce is an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) annual volunteering initiative aimed at rejuvenating the nation’s cricketing facilities. We anticipate that it will once again be then biggest annual volunteering event in sport. In 2007, 70,000 volunteers helped over 1,000 Community Cricket Clubs make a difference to their facilities and cricket to the value of £25,000,000!!! mainly through in kind contributions.

Where / When is it?

On the weekend of 4th - 6th April at Newport Fugitives CC, High Cross

What do we need to do?

Our aim is to get the club ready for the start of the season so it will involve: -

  • painting our picket fence in front of the car park (see pictures of the preparation work at the foot of this page)
  • painting sight screens
  • clearing the boundary edge
  • getting rid of all unwanted waste
  • putting the nets up
  • mowing and rolling the outfield
  • erecting a flag pole
  • any other maintenance jobs necessary

Doing all of this will mean that a great deal of effort will be needed to be put in by all the players.

Is there anything else happening here at this weekend?

Yes, besides the maintenance work: -

  • We hope to provide a coaching clinic on the Sunday for primary school children.
  • There'll be a barbeque fired up for most of the weekend
  • The bar clubhouse is open all weekend for members & non-members to enjoy the facilities.

See below some pictures of our CricketForce preparations (24th Feb 2007) - Digging holes for the car-park fence posts. Everyone agreed that Franky is a tough taskmaster!!

The following week (Sunday 4th March 2007) was worse weather but Site Manager Franky insisted on getting the job done...

...AND SO TO THE WEEKEND...
