Q. What and how does a firewall protect my PC?

A. Its a program which acts as a  gateway to your PC in which data to and from your computer flows. Rules can be added to only allow specific sites and software to have access to your computer. Rules can also be specified to allow your computer access out to 'trusted' web sites. Firewalls  act as sentries guarding access to and from your PC.

our prices Q. How does antivirus software protect my PC?

A. Firstly to work effectively it must use the most up to date  software and pattern files for the antivirus software package on your PC. This can change on a daily basis!

Next, it compares your data and files with the pattern file (which contains all the latest virus information) and if any anomalies are found you are notified then an attempt is made to quarantine the virus on your computer and then delete it.

top of page Q. Why should I back-up my PC data and programs?

A. In the event of a PC 'disaster' whereby data is accidentally erased, or destroyed by a hard disk failure. Say for example that your hard disk is damaged then once it is repaired or replaced you can then proceed to restart your PC by means of your 'back-up' copy of system and personal data. Your backed-up data can be loaded onto your PC from the snapshot that you took at a particular point in time. The more frequently that you take a data snapshot then the more up to data your PC will be.
