Introductory Remarks

Having reminded you of the basics of the Kingdom of God and eschatology in NT study, we should now be able to identify some of the areas we need to look at in John. We shall be asking ourselves:

• How (by what criteria) are people judged?
• Who judges? Jesus or the Father?
• What is the reward for the righteous?
• What happens to the unrighteous?
• Is Jesus presented as the Saviour of the World or its Judge?
• When does judgement happen?
• Is the teaching on eschatology and judgement in the Fourth Gospel contradictory?
• To what extent is the Fourth Gospel's teaching on Eschatology and Judgement meaningful to today's reader?
