LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY FENCING ASSOCIATION.

HISTORY

In 1993, the Amateur Fencing Association, (now the British Fencing Association) linked up with North Kesteven District Councils sports development unit, to address the void of Fencing in Lincolnshire. At this time only one known club, North Kesteven Fencing Club was in operation.

A series of coaching courses was set up with the aim of self-promoting/developing of Fencing within the county.

The A.F.A. then set up a meeting between interested parties that were keen to promote Fencing, and suggested forming a steering committee that would develop into a Full County Union.

The steering committee then pursued a grant from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts to help develop new and existing initiatives.

On securing the grant, the Union was formed April 23rd 1994.

From the outset, the Union has been held together by the 3 main clubs in the County; The Custodians fencing club, Sleaford sword, and North Kesteven fencing club.

Involvement from other clubs and fencing organisations within the county has always been encouraged. Grimsby fencing club, Skegness grammar school and various R.A.F. bases have contributed to the running of the county.

The sports development office of North Kesteven District Council has played a major role in developing the sport. An initial 5-year sports development plan helped sponsor courses, tournaments and publicity. This included the development of the County logo.

Now known as the County Association, The County Association is affiliated to the British Fencing Association and the East Midlands Region.

The County is committed to providing opportunities for fencing within the County at Senior and Junior level.
