In
Year 11 students should have completed all coursework assignments.
Students will study either a novel or short stories from their anthology
for their literature examination. Individual teachers decide which
play and which novel/stories will best suit the ability of their group.
They should also spend time redrafting any remaining final drafts
of coursework assignments.
We continue to encourage private reading, as we believe it is impossible
to attain the very highest grades at GCSE level without wider reading.
A detailed reading list matching ability will be issued at the beginning
of each key stage.
It is essential that students completed all coursework by the start
of Year 11. If anyone has missed a coursework assignment for a particular
reason, perhaps because they joined the school late, we shall have
catch-up sessions after school on Thursdays. Each student will have
a marked and complete folder of five pieces of coursework by the Year
11 mock examinations. We must have time this year to practise examination
technique please support students in meeting our deadlines.
Students will also study Poetry of Other Cultures and two key poets
(usually Carol Ann Duffy and Simon Armitage). Furthermore, they will
study a selection of pre-twentieth century poems also in the anthology.
Students will receive reading homeworks in which they have to read
and annotate the poems to be studied in the exam. They will also receive
practice essays for homework to be done in an hour.
If you have any concerns about your child’s English homework, or any
other aspect of their English studies then please contact Mrs Buck,
Head of English.
