Mobile Phone Security

Last year I offered to security mark mobile phones and record serial numbers, the purpose was to make the tracing of lost / stolen mobile phones easier. This initiative was cancelled as I received positive replies from less than 3% of students.

The phone companies have now joined forces to do their bit in combating mobile phone theft. As long as you have both your phone number and your IMEI (serial) number your network provider will initially cancel both the sim card and the phone on your network. The imei number is then passed to all other network providers and your phone is cancelled across all networks.

This means that if your phone is stolen you can cancel it completely, making it worthless to a thief. It also means that if someone tries to sell you a phone and that phone is in fact stolen you will not be able to use it even if you insert your own sim card.

I have a limited supply of Mobile Phone ID cards on which you can record all the necessary details in case your phone is lost / stolen. These will be available from Matrons Office at breaktimes.

This may all seem like a lot of effort for you but, unfortunately phones are going missing from students at this school.
