Year 7 curriculum visit to Boulogne, February 4th, 2005

Dear Parent,

We are very pleased to be able to offer to Year 7 a day trip to France. This is a curriculum visit, which gives students the opportunity to hear and see authentic French - and to try it out! We would like as many year 7 students as possible to take part in this exciting day.

We will leave school at 5.00am on Friday February 4th, 2005, travel by coach to Dover, by ferry to Calais and continue by coach to Boulogne. During the day we will visit the town of Boulogne and visit the Nausicaa centre. Students will be given tasks to complete during the day and will spend some time in small, supervised groups. We will return to school at approximately 11.30pm.

The cost of the visit is £36, which includes a £15 non-refundable deposit, all transport, insurance and entrance to the Nausicaa centre. Students will need food and drink for the whole day and some spending money. It is possible to buy things to eat and drink on the ferry (in Sterling or in Euros) although the ferry tends to be quite expensive. In France we will need Euros now, not Francs, and about £10 worth would be enough.

Students do not need to wear uniform and should wear something comfortable for a long day with a fair amount of walking. If students bring items such as a camera, a mobile ‘phone or a walkman for the coach, this is their responsibility and should be looked after by them. Mobile ‘phones are of course extremely expensive to use or call when abroad and we do not recommend bringing one. Exact details of all arrangements will be sent nearer the time.

Each student will also need an E111 certificate. These can be obtained free of charge from the Post Office and the certificate at the back of the booklet needs to be filled in and stamped at the Post Office and then handed into school. (not the whole booklet please!)

Students will travel on a group passport and will need to bring in a passport photo with their name and tutor group on the back, when they hand in their payment.

If you would like your son or daughter to come on the trip please

complete the attached form
enclose full payment of £36 (which includes a non-refundable deposit of £15)
enclose a passport size photo with the student’s name and tutor group on the back
enclose completed and stamped E111 certificate (originals only please)

You will appreciate that a visit for such large numbers takes a good deal of organising, so students should not take replies to their French teacher or form tutor but should

bring form, E111 form, passport photo and money to the following rooms on the appropriate day between 1.20 and 1.50pm
Tuesday 19th October 2004: 7-1 - N7, 7-2 - N8, 7-3 - N9, 7-4 - N10
Wednesday 20th October 2004: 7-5 - N7, 7-6 - N8, 7-7 - N9, 7-8 - N11

If a student is absent it will of course still be possible to reserve a place for a few days after this. We are sorry but if parents withdraw students from the trip, a refund will not be possible of monies which have already been paid to the tour operator. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. If there are any concerns about payment these can also be addressed to me.

Yours sincerely

Miss H Miles,
Modern Foreign Languages.
