Dear Parent
I am writing to inform you of a trip for all students in the Year
7 fast track, which will take place on Monday, 18 October. We will
visit Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water, where students will have the
opportunity to practise and develop many key literacy skills, including
writing to describe, writing to inform and reading for information,
in an exciting and stimulating learning environment. This trip will
complement and support the work students have been doing on personal
writing, and Michael Morpurgo’s novel When the Whales Came.
It is an important part of the literacy programme we are providing
for Fast Track students.
Transport will be by coach, and we will leave college at 9.00 am and
return at 3.00 pm. Students will need to dress in correct school uniform,
and be equipped with a pen and pencil. They will be under staff supervision
at all times during the trip.
Students may bring a small amount of money, as there may be time to
visit the gift shop at some point during the day. It is important
to note that money, along with other property such as cameras etc,
is bought entirely at students’ own risk, and it may not be possible
to leave property safely on the coach during the day. Unfortunately
we cannot guarantee the weather, and as students will be working outside,
they need to bring a warm weather-proof coat. Students will also need
to bring a packed lunch. No sweets or drinks may be consumed on the
coach.
The cost of this trip is £7.80, which covers transport and entrance
to Birdland.
We are delighted to be able to offer students this challenging and
rewarding educational opportunity. Please do not hesitate to contact
either Mrs Buck of Mrs Collins if you have any queries, or would like
more details.
Please send and return the attached permission slip with payment by
21 September (cheques should be made payable to Bicester Community
College). Many thanks. Yours faithfully Mrs G Buck (Head of English)
