Year 10 & 11 GCSE Art Coursework

Dear Parents

The Art Department would like to welcome the parents of the Year 10 GCSE students and provide them with a breakdown of what is expected of the students this year. The year will go by quickly and it is therefore very important that the students work to their full potential, and to set themselves up for success in their final year of GCSE. Much of the coursework required will be completed in Year 10.

The students need to produce a series of coursework modules and they are as follows:

Module 1 (Natural Forms)

This consists of 5 observational drawings. Four reference pages, including the title, and the information of their chosen natural forms artists. One large artwork, with preparation work and a smaller supporting piece of work (study), to serve as a development piece.

Module 2 (Cultural Choice)
This consists of 5 observation drawings. Four reference type pages including the title and artist information of their chosen cultures. One large artwork, with preparation work and a smaller supporting piece of work to serve as a development piece.

Module 3 (Personal Choice)
This module is based on the students choice of artist and needs to follow the same requirements as above.

Art is a subject whereby the artists ability develops with time and practice. It is therefore essential that the students are spending time at home completing coursework. We would be grateful if you would keep a regular check on work being completed at home, and ensure that students are meeting deadlines set. It would be helpful if you could please ensure that your child is doing their art homework each week, so that they are ready to perfect their portfolios when exam time arrives.

If you require further information with regards to homework or the course outline, please do not hesitate to contact the relevant art teacher, as they would welcome your involvement in your child’s progress.

Yours sincerely

W.Nicholls, L. Kennett, A Langford and M.Stevens
