HOMEWORK
Spring Term 2005

September 2005
Dear Parents

We all know how important homework is. There is much evidence that good homework routines, which develop an individual's ability to learn are crucial to students' success. Homework is one of the areas in which the quality of the home-school partnership is crucial - parents encouraging and overseeing homework completion, and staff setting appropriate and challenging tasks and marking it regularly. The inclusion of websites will enable students to complete additional research or to follow up individual interests.

These homework booklets will help to develop this important partnership. The booklets give parents and students details for the coming term of the homework which is to be set, and should be used in conjunction with the students' homework diaries or planners. This more detailed approach should enable all students to be reminded of their daily homework commitments, as set out in their Homework timetable, provided for them in the first week of the term. It should also help parents to ensure that students complete all work set, and to support and encourage high quality homework with greater confidence in the nature of the work set. We have now also included the Homework Timetable to help parents and students know the pattern of homework set.

The teaching staff will monitor closely the production of homework. Action taken if homework is not completed will include a detention, a note in the diary or, if persistent, contact with parents by letter or telephone. Should this not be effective, students will be expected to complete all homework in the College for one week, staying for one hour after school each afternoon. Once a routine has been re-established, parents will be asked to ensure that this routine continues at home.

I am sure that these arrangements will help students to achieve their full potential, and I know that many of you appreciate the production of these booklets.

Yours sincerely

Cynthia Bartlett
