THE
ASSOCIATED CLUBS OF CLYDE GOLF COMPETITION
"FIRTH OF CLYDE WEE TROPHY "
Saturday 19th August 2006
Committee
Report
Opening comments and
presentation of trophies by Nigel Wright, Chairman of the Associated
Clubs of Clyde, with Graham Thomson, Captain of Blairmore and Strone
Golf Club..who coincidently won the Firth of Clyde "Wee Trophy".
Firstly can I present
to you Graham as Captain of Blairmore and Strone and to your club
this framed photo as a momento for hosting the Firth of Clyde competitions
this year."
"May I on behalf
of the Executive Committee of the Associated Clubs of Clyde, thank
you for hosting the "Wee Trophy" today and to the greens
staff for presenting the course in such good condition, thank you
to Match Secretary Andrew Daw and to his match committee for their
organisation and running of the competition, the bar staff and the
ladies for catering, we have all had an very enjoyable day."
"The weather was
a bit rough at the start of the day and we have been very lucky
this afternoon,. managing to get all the games in before the rain
started.. This competition has been played for since 1952 when it
was first won by Gourock at Cowal.. It is a competition for higher
handicaps of 11 to 21 and was started to allow greater participation
between clubs and players, adding to and building on friendships
between those clubs and I think that that indeed has certainly worked.
Thank you to all of you
for coming and to the member clubs for sending their teams to take
part in this competition. I hope your individual scores were good
and if not , do not be too critical of yourselves, you have still
taken part in one of the oldest golf competitions in the world and
that is something to be truly proud of, even if as Michael Caine
says "Not a lot of people know that"
We have some keen scores
and unlike the competition in June home advantage meant everything.
Thank you once again
from all the Green Jackets for taking part today and we do hope
to see many of you next year at in Rothesay.
