This is
a scratch team competition, played annually between the clubs of
the Firth of Clyde. The association was Instituted in 1898 and it
is believed to be the oldest interclub golf competition in the world.
The first competition was played for in 1899 by the seven founder
clubs; Blairmore & Strone, Cowal, Gourock, Innellan, Kilcreggan,
Rothesay & Skelmorlie. Since its conception, Millport, Largs
Kelburn, Kyles of Bute, Largs Routenburn & Port Bannatyne have
joined the association. This year, 2004, the event returns to Skelmorlie
and it will be the first time that the competition has been played
over the new 18 hole layout. Although with a pretty good record
in the competition over the years, the past few years have been
trophyless & we have to go back to 1988 for Skelmorlie's last
win in the competition. Three of the winning team that day, Scott
McIntyre, Jack Paton & Alan Napier are still members. The other
two members of the winning team were Alan Cameron & Ken Morton.
