ButtonThorpe Camp Visitor Centre was formerly part of No. 1 Communal Site, RAF Woodhall Spa. The site was due for demolition in 1987, however a group of enthusiasts formed the Thorpe Camp Preservation Group with the aim of restoring the site and creating a visitor centre depicting the story of RAF Woodhall, it's squadrons and civilian life in Lincolnshire during WWII.

Work is still going on to restore the site - but there's lots to see... .. WWII Observer Corps Post, Anderson Shelter, Wartime Kitchen - as well as separate areas covering each of the squadrons which operated from RAF Woodhall Spa during WWII.

Thorpe Camp is staffed entirely by volunteers so the opening times are naturally limited. Check before travelling. At the time of my visit (September 2000) the opening times were:-
Every Sunday & Bank Holiday from May to September and Wednesdays in July & August. 2:00pm to 5pm
For Guided Tours, Groups, School Parties please make prior arrangements. Car parking is adequate and free.
Contact them at:-

My thanks to all the staff for their kindness during my visit and for restoring another piece of Lincolnshire's WWII history for future generations.
