Watermead Park and Central Leicester

- Summary

This follows Sustrans Route 6 from Watermead Park south through Leicester, and back along the same route. The length is basically as far as you want to go before turning around. The detailed description is for 10 km each way.

Start / Finish

There are three potential access points: 

Best: parking off Troon Way on east side of Watermead Park. Has a 2m height limit, so if you are using roof racks go to

Backup: Riverside Road, Birstall on the west of the Park.

Alternative: make a day of it by coming down on the Great Central Railway (restored steam line) from Loughborough or Quorn.

Ascent

Virtually nil. Follows the river.

On road/Off road

Almost all off road, though there are several main roads to cross.

Facilities

Good pub at Birstall. Cafe in Abby Park.

Points of interest

This route goes through the centre of Leicester and passes a number of points of interest, including the Space Centre, Abbey Pumping Station and Belgrave House.
