Cloud Trail - Detail
Where to start
Park in the dedicated Car Park on the edge of Worthington at OS map reference SK406209 (Note - this is off Breedon Lane, not Manor Drive. It is well signposted from the village as "Cloud Trail".
Route
Simple: follow the National Cycle Route 6 signs. It is an old railway line and therefore pretty flat.
After approx 1.5km you have to turn left and go 200m up the path, cross the A42 on the road, and then go down the other side to rejoin the old railway line.
A further 5km brings you out on the viaduct across the Trent. This is a great place to stop for refreshments, and to go down to the riverbanks to explore. While we were there we saw a kingfisher, a heron and plenty of fish.
Continue 1km beyond the Trent and you arrive on a road section for 1.2km to the junction with the A5132. You can turn right here and do up the hill to the large roundabout over the A50. There is a big, modern pub on the far side of the junction with a play area for children and an extensive menu. Alternatively turn left to Swarkestone. We haven't checked out the facilities there, though the map marks a pub.
If you want to continue with the ride, follow the Sustrans Route 6 signs along the first lane on your right as you enter the village. Otherwise turn around (suitably refueled after your visit to the pub) and retrace the route to the parking.
