Welcome

Welcome to my Spire GT-R website. As you will probably realise I used to have a V6 Sierra with a cosworth BOA engine fitted. It was a 4x4 which I used on the road and for track days. It was a great car some say it was the best car Ford never built. However it is now sold and the next track day weapon has now arrived.

In the beginning

I bought the Sierra off of eBay with the intention of using it for track days and then stripping it to build a Dax Rush Quadra. We did our first track day Down at Goodwood in Dec 04 and we enjoyed it immensely However it became apparent that the car needed more development ( see the Sierra Page for more.) After a year of fun the time to move on had come but what next? I have been impressed by the speed and agility of the bike engined cars I have seen on the track so it was just a matter of which kit to choose. I have always wanted to build a mid engined car so that narrowed the field quite a bit. I had seen the MK GT1 on the total kit car website but was very disappointed that they had decided to sell the project. I followed the project to Evolution Sports cars and made enquiries but it never came to anything. Then I saw the project had been sold again to Spire Sports cars and that they were intending to be exhibiting at Exeter Kit car show. We went along and met Paul Nightingale at Exeter.

At the Exeter Show we managed to persuade Paul to bring his car along to Donington In December to try it on the track. We all arrived on a cold and very damp December day and Paul took us out in turn to sample the car. The picture above shows Claire and Vince grinning after their trips around the track. after my trip round the deal was done; just one small problem - money! The sierra had to go first hence the delay.

Impressions

When we tried the car at Exeter it was very comfortable and a true two seater  which the Mission T5 isn't its a 1and a bit seater with no passenger seat, very fast and handles brilliantly but still very tight. What I wanted was a true two seater so the Spire it was. The track at Donington was damp and slippery but Paul is a very accomplished driver having raced formula ford in the past. He made us all fell very at home and safe with his driving skill. The car handles very well and is sure footted on the slippery track. The engine is a dream with lots of guts throughout the rev range and the brakes are very good also. After our demonstrations we all agreed this was the direction to go so the stage was set for the next chapter.
