Avoiding the limelight until now, they like to play acoustic world music and traditional Irish instrumentals and even now, are experimenting in wider fields. 12.00-1.00pm Garry Smith, although he is a slide guitarist who plays a resonator guitar, prefers to avoid the obvious Blues repertoire, concentrating instead on his own songs and instrumentals and the work of writers such as Tom Waits, Joe Ely and Steve Earle. Sue Farthing has been playing and singing in the local area since the late sixties, first as
a member of The Banshee Band and then as a solo artist. After short spell with the
travelling Windward Band, during which she took up the bodhran, she took a break from folk
whilst concentrating on the day job. Since retiring she has been a regular in local pub
sessions and has enjoyed being part of the thriving local music scene. Sue is proud to be
a founder member of BURP! (Berkhamsted Ukulele Random Players) and is now an organiser
for 'Ukes for Unicef', Hertfordshire's first ukulele festival.Sue sings an eclectic mix of songs from a range of sources - none of them remotely connected to George Formby - and positively encourages audience participation. Dan Cassidy has been playing fiddle since given one for his 10th birthday. Brother to the
late Eva Cassidy he appeared on several of her recordings. He is a successful session
musician who regularly performs in the UK. James Hickman learnt a huge amount from his
father who was a bluegrass musician. James spent 2 years with the successful band Uiscedwr
and co formed The Dan Cassidy Swing Quartet. Also part of Hickman & Quinn besides the

Jenny McNaught & Alan Halse - their latest cd was recently launched at Redbourn Folk Club
with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research. They run a montly music session at The

Roy & I were lucky to see Kieran live in concert with Frances Black in Tullamore a while back.
The atmosphere was great, very friendly and of course being in Ireland plenty of banter flying
back and forth. That will remain in our memory as one of those 'Special' concerts that we

Recently from Dublin and now residing in St Albans Damien gives the traditionl
a contemporary feel. His charm flows through his music and the obvious enjoyment

Tom has for many years been regarded as the top fiddle player in the country. Styles and techniques
learned in the company of the masters Sean McGuire, Stephane Grapelli and Bluegrass legend Byron
Berline, give Tom an endless variety of interpretations to his songs and tunes. His live performance
combines a rollercoaster of musical delights from fast, rhythmic dance tunes through beautiful slow
airs and of course, great singing; - all presented with his inimitable sense of humour and style.Renowned for his musical accompaniments, Tom has played on literally hundreds of albums. The list includes: Barbara Dickson, Richard Thompson, Allan Taylor and Lindisfarne. Tom began his career in the ever-vibrant folk scene of Tyneside. His work with a local band gave the opportunity to support his hero Sean McGuire and many other top names including The Fureys, De Dannan, John Doonan, Boys of the Lough and even a lock-in with the Dubliners. With four cds under his belt, numerous appearances at Whitby, Broadstairs & Cambridge
Festivals alongside gigging around the country, Mike has a vast experience of the folk

Anyone watching Clive performing must wonder at the hours of practice he has put in over
the years to become such an amazing guitarist. I suppose when you think he started out
playing banjo at the tender age of 2 before taking to guitar we shouldn't be surprised.
He is constantly performing and also passing on some of his considerable knowledge by
teaching/instructing and gentle coaxing at workshops and Residentails Schools throughout
the year. This will be guitarist heaven concert and I expect tickets will sell out

Martin is a singer-songwriter originally from London who plays regularly
throughout Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.Often performing with just an acoustic guitar or two , Martin gently dips between folk and blues influences to create an often atmospheric and always easy on the ear sound. As well as his own songs, his wide musical influences range from JimCroce, Gordon Lightfoot, Blind Blake to Rory Gallagher and Ralph McTell.
