Redang Island -
Site Background
One of the better islands for diving on the east coast of western Malaysia.
Facilities
Shore based diving, not sure about live aboards.
Very warm water here, I only needed a shorty, and some people just dived in shorts.
Depths & Features
Various depths but most dives are less than 30m.
Lots of different types of coral are here to be seen, along with a plethora of tropical fish and mammals. There is one wreck available to dive on, but I’ve been told there’s not much to see. There are supposedly better wrecks near Sipidan, and the islands west of Malaysia.
Visibility
The visibility was excellent on my trip here. Some dives had visibility of over 25m.
Costs
Diving packages can be obtained cheaply from mainland Malaysia when booked with accommodation. Ping Anchorage in Kuala Terrangu were very helpful, and I’d recommend them.
