Gildenburgh

Site Background

In 1945 the local brickworks closed down, and the quarry was flooded. Since then, the current owners have added some facilities such as changing rooms, bar and canteen, equipment shop and picnic area.

Facilities

Café, Bar, shop, changing rooms, toilets etc. Nitrox and Air fills.

The shop can also service equipment.

Depths & Features

Platforms exist in the lake at various levels, ranging from 1m to a maximum depth of 22m. Many of these platforms are at suitable depths for training and/ or deco stops.

Many underwater features have been added to the lake, such as a double decker bus, a coach, several cars and boats, and my favourite, the Jet Provost.

Most of the under water features at Gildenburgh are roped to make them easier to find.

Visibility

In high season the visibility can be low, due mainly to the large number of divers that frequent this facility, however the visibility can be good at these times if you avoid the main attractions. In the colder, out of season months, the visibility can be excelent.

Costs

£6 per diver.
