Northenden Players Theatre Club (NPTC) is based in Northenden, Greater Manchester and has been in existence for over 60 years. The Players have been in the Boat Lane theatre for over 50 years. The Theatre, which was in an outhouse of the Tatton Arms on the banks of the River Mersey, seated only 57 and had no wings - the dressing rooms were above the stage. However six plays have been performed here each season from September to May with each play put on for seven nights - Sunday to Saturday. However the lease is not to be renewed at the end of the 2007-08 season and the decision has been taken to re-locate to the Northenden Methodist Church Hall in Victoria Road, Northenden until June 2008. It is hoped that this will then become a more permanent arrangement for future seasons. The membership stands at over 340 and there are over 260 Season Ticket holders Tickets for the new venue, which will hold about 90 seats, can be obtained by contacting the ticket secretary on 0161 998 9976

The photo, left, shows the seating in the old auditorium. The theatre only held 57 seats which many of our audience felt was part of the experience of watching a play at Northenden. They were so close to the stage that they felt part of the action. This can work against the actors in some cases when whispered comments such as "Doesn't she dress well - for a big woman" can be picked up on stage.
