Letter to the Membership from The Chairman

October 2007

Dear Member,

As you will know our lease at Boat Lane expires in June 2008 and the new owner has made it clear that he has no intention of renewing it or offering us an option to buy the building.

Accordingly, in August, members of the committee set out to search for a new venue for the Northenden Players, and we have had a number of very promising meetings with David Bown, the Minister at the Victoria Road Methodist Church, and with the Church Committee about the church hall.

The hall is situated close to the centre of Northenden village. It has an auditorium which is somewhat larger than our current theatre. It has a stage and numerous other facilities which we think will be very suitable for our purposes.

Although it is a situation which has been forced on us, the prospect of developing the “Vic” , as we have affectionately termed the hall, is something which those who have visited it find quite exciting.

We have taken the decision to present the December play, “Allo, Allo”, and the remaining plays of the season, at the new venue. This will give us more time to prepare an orderly exit from the old theatre, and will also give us a creative and organisational challenge which we welcome.

We hope you agree and will continue to support the NPTC at this crucial moment in its history.

Detailed information about the move, ticket arrangements, parking etc. will be sent out to all members after the current production.

John Wheatley

Chairman, NPTC
