It’s a Friday, more like 2.00am
Saturday, one cold wet 2000 night. Rod phones Tom-“how are you man?”
“Pretty grim” comes the tired reply. Rod continued:” yeah, but
where are you on the Richter Scale of grim?” There followed a
momentary pause, then they both realized that the dream had begun. Tom
and Rod had known each other for many years, and both had always wanted
to have their own band, and to play their own music. This embryonic
conversation would eventually lead to the formation of the Richter Scale
of Grim, then from 2004, just “The Grim”. Rod had wanted to be the
drummer, Tom could already play rhythm guitar. Rod had been writing
lyrics for years, but with no outlet for his work. Discussions ensued, Kev was recruited on bass, and the search was on for a lead guitarist.
A
couple of guys were approached, but without success. Mart worked with
Rod and Kev, and although he had his own band commitments with “ZenMachineGun”,
Mart agreed to give it a go. His classical training and skilled
musicianship were to prove an invaluable catalyst. The result is this
excellent debut cd entitled “DayNight in the Hay”. The album took
about 16 months to complete, consisting of 10 original songs, co-written
by Rod, Tom, and Mart. Live gigs are pending, because as Rod says, “we
did everything arse about face-lyrics, then band name, then band
members, rehearsals, studio, cd…live is next-and the second album,
with 3 tracks already confirmed”. Listen and enjoy, there’s more to
come, and for once, the future ain’t bright, it’s Grim!
