The Track
The
circuit itself was purpose built for speedway in 1996. The smooth
granite surface is packed in on top of a clay base, perfect for
getting beginners sliding quickly. It's ideal for 125, 250, 350 and
500cc speedway bikes (A bit big for 50 and 90cc although these are
always welcome). The track has recently been measured at 206 metres
and we have conducted a lengthy track program this year to widen the
track to exceed the minimum SCB standards of 8 metres straights &
10 metres bends. Currently we are widening the straights to 9
metres and corners 1 & 2 are 13 metres at their widest points,
with turns 3 & 4 nearly 12 metres. Both corners are different to
try and encourage beginners different styles. In the past six times
world speedway champion Ivan Mauger commented on what an excellent
track Lydd was. The track is purposely kept slick as we are a training
track and if you want to learn to slide it is very flat and rider
friendly.
