Over 9 years ago, I purchased a small
Hairdressers, and Maureen, the lady who worked for me, had a Granddaughter, who was
just starting a Line dance class. So
Maureen & I went along to the class, I went to support Maureen, and to swell the numbers,
but mainly to give this new
venture a chance. That first visit really did nothing for me, I thought that I would go a few times and then just stop going, but it didn't! I loved it, and just kept going, but unfortunately the class closed. This left me with a bit of a problem, “where do I go” I asked myself, were I went was to Impington Village College, to a Gentleman by the name of Roy Wiscombe. Roy is now getting on a bit, but could still dance very well, when I went to him he was marvellous, he danced so beautifully, and I said to myself I want to dance like that! Roy took me through my Dance Medals, Bronze, Silver & Gold (on the top, right) that was it I was totally hooked! So the journey began, I went to Roy, I also found dances in Lindancer Magazine, and got some music, I practiced hard, and then after a while I thought about Teaching. I looked through Line Dancer Magazine, and I found an advert for BWDA2000 , So I contacted a very nice man called Ron Penn, who guided me through the process of becoming a Teacher, which meant many trips to Guildford to go to the Classes that Ron held. The time rolled by, and eventually I took my exams, and thankfully I passed! I was now a Fully Qualified Teacher! Once I had the Qualification, the work to get a Class of my own really started, I had to find a hall, which was quite difficult and I ended up in the Octagon Church Hall in Bar Hill, this was great, just about the right size for a small class, and just down the street! I purchased a twin deck C/D player, and off I went, I had quite a lot of
people come and support me on that first evening, some had never danced
before, and are still coming to my Class now, that was over 8 years ago! With the help of my friend Rachel Clarke & my Husband Rob, we have also put on some very large Dances and Workshops, with some very big Stars performing! These were a great success, but due to the costs involved, I have had to stop these for the time being, I still have Socials for the Classes. Both Rachel & Rob help me with these, Rob is also our very own "DJ" and plays the Music, things have moved on a long way from the little 2 C/D Deck I played the music on, today I use a Laptop Computer, loaded with all the music, I use top of the range sound systems, I have 2, one for the classes, and a very powerful one for the Socials! So that’s it, a Bit of History about Sliders.
