EMUP welcomes everyone

You may of heard about EMUP and thought it was just for underwater photographers. Well that simply isn't the case. EMUP welcomes non-photography minded divers and even non-divers. If you open up any of the diving magazines you will find that the majority of the staff are underwater photographers. Our photographic work helps to tell the story. That story isn't just about f-stops, macro or wide angle; the story is the massive one of the underwater world.

At EMUP we aim to provide talks of general interest, covering a number of themes including film making, travel, technique, the UK etc etc. Often the untrained eye can offer valuable insight to even the best of professional underwater photographer. The St Abbs Splash-in has proven this, this photographic competition is judged by the general public and the winners are not always the pictures that are technically perfect. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

So if you like the sound of one of our talks then please come along.

What is EMUP

There is a lot that a budding photographer can learn from books, such as Martin Edge's excellent book, and the internet (wetpixel and Digigreen). But in my opinion, my own photographic ability took a huge leap forward after meeting fellow underwater photographers and topside photographers in my local camera club. The ability to ask questions like "how did you do that" allowed me to learn rapidly.

So I joined BSoUP and considered joinging NUPG and BUPG, but geographically my location (Nottingham) made attending meetings very difficult. So I thought it was time to have something locally.

EMUP needs to be inclusive of everyone and not an exclusive club where f-numbers and stops are a required language. We hope to attract new comers to underwater photography and to help them develop, give a forum where experienced photographers can pass on their knowledge, and to make an interesting evening where non-divers and general divers can enjoy interesting talk about the underwater world.
