Hello, my name is Robert Alan Shields, most people know me as "Knocker", living in Romford, Essex, England. I used to be a racing cyclist until 1991 when in the later part of the year I was diagnosed as having a serious heart problem which forced me to stop racing, On January the 28th 1992 I had triple by-pass surgery, which helped my problem but did not cure it. This caused me to retire from work at (52) and the sport I loved so much. I am still involved with the sport of cycle racing and I can ride my bike but only for pleasure, mainly at the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority's purpose built cycle circuit called Eastway, which sadly has now closed (on 11th November 2006) and demolished to make way for the OLYMPICS of 2012, I am now 65 as of the 20th of December 2007 and still enjoy riding my bike. Other jobs I used to enjoy doing was operating the excellent Finish Lynx photo finish camera at the circuit and help run The Eastway Supporters Thursday League, more commonly known as the ESL but alas that will no longer happen thanks to Nigel Hampton (see THE RESULTS page on this website). The ESL will hope fully be organising races on Thursday evening as soon as we can get a circuit to use, This will be at Hogg Hill in Essex some time in the year 2008!!!
These pages are a brief look into the life of Robert Alan "knocker" Shields, have bike will travel.
