The End Of An Era:
The Committee Minutes of 25th July 1975
[ History ]
Mr. W. Boe was elected to be Chairman of the Meeting.
This meeting was called because Mr. A. Marshall had resigned as conductor of
the Band, also the bad attendance of members to engagements.
The Secretary said that the only answer to poor attendance was for members to
put their names down on the sheet when they would not be at engagements with at
least 2 week notice, this would give time to engage players, but when someone
tells you on a Friday before, there is not much chance of finding stand in
players.
Mr. A. Marshall
Mr. A. Marshall said his reason for resigning from the Band, was to give the
Band a chance to see if a chance of conductors would help the Band, he said it
had been discussed over a number of committee meetings, and its was felt that
the Band wasn't getting any better, or going anywhere, just stagnating, and he
thought that by him resigning this would give the band a chance to see if a new
conductor could make a difference. There was a lot of discussion round the
meeting to see if Mr. Marshall would change his mind, but he was made up in his
mind that his way was for the best.
Mr. A. Marshall's resignation was accepted by the meeting, but with very much
regret, and a vote of thanks was given to Mr. Marshall for all his hard work
over a great number of years. To this, Mr. Marshall thanked the Band, and said
he would be only too willing to help the Band in any way and at any time.
It was also felt by the meeting that there was a lack of communication
between the committee and the Band, especially on important matters, one being
the resignation of the Band Chairman, Mr. G. Rigby, to answer this secretary
read all letters between the Band and Mr. Rigby.
It was suggested that any important matters concerning the band be told to the
Band in future.
