Enjoy a holiday in Orkney, staying in our modern, well equipped caravan, and discover our islands. At Bryameadow, you are assured of a warm welcome by a traditional Orcadian family, the majority of whose guests return year after year. Orkney is a group of some 70 islands situated off the north east coast of Scotland, separated from the Scottish mainland by the Pentland Firth, where the waters of the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet. Around 17 of these mainly low lying, fertile islands are inhabited. Hoy, (literally translated as "High Island") is the exception, and is more akin to the Scottish Highlands in character. Wildlife abounds, and spectacular cliff scenery is never far away. Orkney also has more archaeological remains per square mile than anywhere else in Europe. There are ample opportunities for Bird Watching, Trout Fishing, Sea Angling, Divers, Walkers, Photographers, Golfers, Sight Seeing, Wildlife Enthusiasts, Water Sports, Dining Out, Historians, Cycling, Island Hopping, etc., etc. Bryameadow is in the west of the main island; it lies on the border between the parishes of Sandwick and Birsay, and is 3 miles from the village of Dounby. At our northerly location it never gets properly dark in the summer months, in fact you can read the newspaper or play golf at midnight! The long summer evenings are ideal for fishing, or squeezing in that extra bit of sightseeing. Then, around the Winter Solstice, it may appear to never get properly light! However, the Northern Lights, locally known as the "Merry Dancers" (Aurora Borealis) are a frequent visitor in the winter. Please use the navigation links on the left to find out more. If you require any further information, please contact us. We hope to see you soon! The Morgan Family |
