The information and photographs on this page are
courtesy Stu Kerrn (U.S.A.). Stu used the plans available on this
website to scratch build this excellent model of a Clyde puffer.
Stu agreed with my request to post the pictures of his puffer at
various stages of construction.
Stu dedicated the build of this model to his Rottwieller
Babe which sadly passed away recently. I am sure his puffer will
be an insperation to those of you who would like to build a model
puffer for themselves.
Stu's comments..................
The "BABE" is radio controlled with working
lights, proper rigging, individual planks with tissue between for
caulking, diamond plate cargo deck, homemade prop, detail on the
outside of the hull, scratch cargo winch, "S" gauge railroad
figure crew, sterling silver chain painted black for the steering
chain, and hand sawn wood using my bandsaw and drill press. "BABE
is 15 1/2 inches long and weigh 3 lbs, 4 1/4 lbs. with the stand
(all radio equipment aboard).
I took your plans and made them to this size to
enter in the St.
Louis Admirals Regatta (in miniature class) in ST. Louis Missouri
U.S.A. in September. The boats must be radio controlled but judged
static.
The "BABE" is plank on frame with 1/32 thick planks and
7 oz. per sq . yard fibreglass with microballons to smooth out everything.
The hull plating is what you call body filler (easy
process). I have photos of the rudder, controlled by a slider, the
servo arm slides on the rudder arm to save space.
I am happy to share any methods I use to promote model boating.
