The following review appeared in Crescendo and Jazz Music magazine in February/March 2006

Bob Hudson lists his favourite pianists as being Dudley Moore, George Shearing, Gene Harris and Oscar Peterson. The influence of these masters is evident in his playing, indeed the opening track Yesterdays is much inspired by Dudley Moore's version. This trio, however is a revelation. It is a long time since I have enjoyed listening to an unfamiliar pianist with such pleasure.. The trio is a very tight group which swings with unbridled enthusiasm. I was particularly impressed with Geoff Pearson's bass playing and Paul Brown is a very sympathetic , unobtrusive drummer.

The programme is very well selected. Hudson has a good feel for ballads such as Blame it on my Youth and Too Young to go steady. There are three very melodic originals, Sandra's Song, Crystal Stream, and a latin inspired Shufflin' and Scufflin'. It is the foot tapping, swinging arrangements, however which show this fine pianist at his best. His treatments of Robbin's Nest, Summer Wind and Falling in love with love are the finest.

Alan Joyce, jazz correspondent of the Nottingham Evening Post wrote the following review which appeared in the 15th April 2005 edition :-

BOB HUDSON TRIO: Swings Yesterdays (MCPS). Twelve superb tracks on the latest offering from this fine Nottingham pianist. Bob’s classical training and influences from some the most prominent pianists in jazz has resulted in a style and approach that is all his own. His improvisations are elegant and expressive and he chooses here a selection of standards that should delight a wide audience. Bob is responsible for three of the tunes and one, Sandra’s Song is beautifully constructed. The trio, consisting of Geoff Pearson (bass) and Paul Brown (drums), is widely acclaimed as one of the best in the UK and has played together since the mid-1980s. Pearson’s rich, deep bass is an asset to many local groups and is beautifully recorded here. Brown is an impeccable timekeeper and his metronomic skills complement his tidy punctuations. The album’s title track, Jerome Kern’s Yesterdays finds Bob in an ebullient mood, which characterises the rest of the album revealing his awesome technique and the group’s ability to swing. Another of Bob’s compositions, Shufflin’ And Scufflin’ is a relaxed 12-bar blues giving all three chance to expound their creative talents. Blended in with the swingers are delicately handled ballads and  bold bossas, effectively highlighting Bob’s extreme flexibility.
