THE MOTHERS UNION

St. Luke’s Branch was reformed in May 2002 and we meet on the first Tuesday in the month from 1.30 – 3 p.m. in the Crypt Chapel of the Church.

Projects

Supporting the Women’s Refuge

We have two projects, the first being to support the Women’s Refuge in the Parish and to that end we visit there twice a month. One visit is in the afternoon when we often do sewing, knitting and crafts which will usually focus on the season of the year. Cards or decorations for Christmas, Mothering Sunday or Easter etc. We take refreshments and enjoy chatting to the women and their children. The other visit is in the evening when Bingo is popular or a quiz evening and we have also done easy cookery and Microwave Cookery evenings. We collect good secondhand children’s clothes for the families and household equipment and smaller items of furniture that can be transported by car. for when the Mums are moving into their new home.

Baptism Sponsorship

Our second project is to sponsor the children who are being baptised in our Church which will involve visiting before the baptism, often accompanying our priest on the first occasion, and then keeping contact and friendship with the family afterwards for the first 5 years in particular.

Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome.
