Welcome to my web site. I created this site to share my experiences of making two F5 style mandolins from scratch. I have already built a few instruments which can be viewed by clicking the Guitars I`ve made page on this site. If you are thinking of making a mandolin yourself, you will find my discussion about tools on the About tools page useful. The wood materials and also special luthiery tools were acquired from www.stewmac.com in the U.S.A. I`m also working with plans obtained from stewmac and also the video “How To Build An Arch Top Mandolin” by Don Macrostie also obtained from stewmac. I have started construction on these instruments, and this site will be continually updated as I complete various stages of construction. Remember, this is much a learning curve for me as it might be for you if you feel you would like to have a try. I might make some mistakes along the way. Areas of making I`m apprehensive about is cutting the rebate in the scroll of the body. This has to be done by hand as it`s difficult to do with a router. And applying a sunburst stain finish as I`ve never done a sunburst before. Well then, browse my site and enjoy, and send me an email if you have any questions or just want to chat about mandolins. Oh, and incidentally, the two mandolins will be for sale when their finished. |
