DCC V Woodborough
Woodborough, Notts 1st September 2002
Glorious day for it and Jamie, now a proud father, did the honours and won the toss. Or did they even toss, or did Jamie just talk the talk. Anyway, we had a bat.
Rob taking the day off so Smudger on roving reporter duty.
A couple of new players in who are mates of Crossy's for some reason with Crossy himself out with a sprained wrist, the origin of the injury the subject of just one or two (dozen) gags.
Steve Gaunt and Nick (one of the new chaps) opened and Gaunty led a charmed life to put it mildly. He was only in for 11 overs and was dropped three or four times. He finally perished and Ben (the other new player) joined Nick and they put on a decent partnership. Nick made 63 and Ben 35. Jamie came in and celebrated the new arrival by scoring 63 in about 10 minutes. Most impressed by the cut over point for six. Dean hit a cameo 29 not out and Alec and yours truly 15 each. I felt particularly hard done by being run out by Dean. Ludicrous, ridiculous, completely lacking in logic. Anyway, a total of 256 for 6 was posted and tea taken.
Woodborough never looked like getting close to their target and the wickets were shared by six different bowlers. Perhaps most impressive was Adam who took 3 for 22. Steve Gaunt had a torrid time behind the stumps largely due to some erratic returns to the stumps and the opportunity to complete a bad day at the office came when one delivery was top edged miles into the air. Memories of Cymbals Gaunt up at Wiseton came flooding back and as the ball hung in the air, I'm sure I could hear the 1812 Overture in the background. Was that you, Alec? Unfortunately, for comedy purposes, Steve hung onto the catch. Woodborough ended on 139 all out and it was down the pub for a pint.
Dorchester 256 for 6. (Hoskin 83, Lees 63)
Woodborough 139 all out. (Adam Street 3-22)
