Rollaston, Derbys, 27th June 2004

Off to Rollaston this week, this side of Burton and a wonderful setting.

I assume we won the toss as we batted first but unfortunately Paul only scored 5 and Hibbo wasn't far behind, departing for 4. At the other end, there was no stopping Steve Gaunt, apart from a stoppage in play caused by one of the site screens being blown over by the gusty wind. You could almost hear Richie saying ''that's something I've never witnessed on any cricket ground right around the world' but I can't say I did.

Anyway, Steve finally departed for 58, Dean made 23 and then Crossy and Dave Spencer put on 87 for the 5th wicket. And what a knock from Spenno. I don't remember him batting like that since Casper was in his pomp. Ian departed for 50 with Dave falling just two runs short of a deserved half century', most of his runs scored in driving rain. So we ended on 222 for six. A marvellous effort that and a super score, 222.

Another superb tea was taken, a credit to our hosts.

Rollaston stared brightly, putting on 55 for the first wicket but we soon started to make inroads, at an ever increasing rate of wicket-taking knots. Andy Gaunt, Dave (he's on fire) Spencer and Hibbo all took 2 wickets apiece with Dean, myself and last of all Paul taking a wicket each. I don't think anyone from the Rollaston area had ever seen bowling like that sent down by Paul and his one over was the most entertaining of the day.

So they finished on 130 all out and a job well done.
